Ode to a cycling shoe

I finally broke down and ordered a pair of (very cheap) mountain bike shoes during the holiday sales, and we finally bought pedals for them this past week, when I noticed that the bolts were falling off the cages that I had on my bike before this. (2000 miles was more than those poor guys could handle.) So now I get the joy of learning how to clip in and clip out, which seems to take more coordination than I have right now. Thankfully, I am doing my cycling indoors on the trainer (Bob, as I call it. My trainer, Bob) so I don't fall off. I think I am going to need some time to get used to how to work these darn things.
I have no idea if I will stick with the shoes I bought, or if I will upgrade to something better in a few months, but I am liking how much more power I am getting using them. I can stand up on the pedals (briefly, we're talking 20 seconds at a time.) a lot more easily and everything.
I guess it's time to start planning out the years cycling tours...
