2007 Year In Review
Dec. 28th, 2007 07:42 pm![[personal profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/user.png)
I think I'll call this year the year of "Domesticity and Intense Emotional Pain". As if that couldn't be the subtitle on my writing most years.
SGA
Fannish Oddities
Androdioecious( 26K, Lorne/Parrish)
I liked this one, but the title is confusing, and not really memorable. Even I can't quite recall what happens
Starving Artists( 8K, Lorne/Parrish)
First one of the series
Not Exactly a First Date (SA 2)( 21K, Lorne/Parrish)
Second of the series. The third story in the series is stalled, which is too bad, as it's heaps of domesticity and Evan finally gets laid.
In Sun and Shower( 8K, Beckett/Sheppard)
I'm not going to write this pairing again, I think. I didn't like leaving Rodney out. If I do revisit, it'll be a threesome.
Women's Work( 23K, Miko Kusanagi /Laura Cadman)
The only one of its kind.
Things with McKay, or Sheppard, or McKay/Sheppard in them
4 couples not in season 4( 10K, Teyla/Sam, Lorne/Zelenka, Ronon/Weir, McKay/Sheppard)
Okay, I lied. We saw one of these couples.
5 SGA ficlets and how they grew up( 10K, McKay/Sheppard)
5 McKay and Sheppard Vignettes, from Gen to Slash
See the Possible (Taste the Rainbow)( 20K, Sheppard, McKay)
Remix of thepouncer, Yay! And just a light amount of John-in-pain, and tons of domestic stuff.
Two Roads, One Moment( 12K, Amnesiac!Descended!Sheppard, McKay)
I want to revisit this Mensa!verse AU so, so much. I wonder what happened to Elan, and did he regain his memories.
Diplomacy in Waltz Tempo (64K?, Sheppard/McKay)
Written for surfacing, so it'll be posted next year. Again with the John emotional pain.
Le Beau en Stasis( 18K, Sheppard/McKay, Sam/Jack/Daniel)
My fixation with fairy tales continues. Plus humor! I needed humor this year.
Preferential Treatment( 33K, Sheppard/McKay)
Boatloads of H/c. I really must love John as I hurt him so, so much. Remixing Barb was just like old times.
What I tell You Three Times( 53K, Sheppard/McKay)
A huge boatload of angst and an unhappy ending. It's awesome.
Goodnight Moon( 4K, Sheppard/McKay, Madison)
Foreshadowing my fixation on M3 fiction. And hey! It's all domesticity and happiness here.
Heroes
Zombie Patrol( 9K, Peter/Claire)
Ah, back before we knew it was incest.
Company Town( 95K, Matt/Mohinder, Molly)
Seriously, I love this AU. I mean...Space Cowboys! And dirty company doings! And Romance! And Personal Coming Out Stories And Falling in Love! Just, you know, with a teeny-tiny amount of H/c and emotional pain.
Other Fandoms
The Importance of Bearing Cocoa ( 8K, The Tick, Tick/Arthur)
Arthur emotional pain. What a switch from John. But Tick is domestic enough that it's all right
Ziggurat( 16K, The Secret Adventures of Jules Verne, Jules/Phileas)
Jules H/c. Gorgeous steampunk FTW!
This is the link to last year's review, for those that want to compare. In summary, my 2007 resolutions were:
1. Write some sequels and follow up on what I have done before.
Not done. This needed more work. I have 1/2 of the third story left to write
2. Write longer stories. For a minimum of 500 words.
Done
3. Post more of my own story ideas -- 4 non-challenge stories.
Done--I did 7
4. finish desert prince.
So not done
5. Be kinder to myself and try to curb some of the negative self-talk about my work.
Would like to do better, still very hard on myself
6. Participate in a cycling event.
Done. I did 3 last year, one for Diabetes, Flying Wheels, and the STP. I'm going to do them again next year, and will work on getting faster.
Total number of published pieces: 18 (Half of what I did last year).
Total word count: approximately 63k words
Average story length, including drabbles: 3516 words
Fandoms: 4. SGA, Heroes, The Tick, The Secret Adventures of Jules Verne
Pairings:12.
My favorite story of this year: Women's Work would also be my choice for biggest surprise. I thought I was writing this story just for me, but a lot of people have liked it.
My best story this year: What I tell You Three Times I think this story is a stomach punch to the gut. Everytime I got close to pulling back on it, my friend and beta
sherrold would say: "what team are you writing this for?" She never let me back down, and I love how it pushed right to the edge.
Story most underappreciated by the universe, in my opinion: Androdioecious I liked it, but I was one of the few that did.
Most fun story: Le Beau en Stasis It was fun to write humor. I hadn't done something like this in a while, and it was great to be able to just go for it and have fun.
Most sexy story or story with the single sexiest moment:
Diplomacy in Waltz Tempo. Just trust me on that. It has it's moment, even though it is flawed.
--single climactic moment, sexual or not,
Company Town I got to write action, yay! I think that shoot-out at the ending worked.
"Holy crap, that's wrong, even for you" story: Going with What I tell You Three Times, because unhappy endings after so much suffering are just wrong.
Hardest story to write: Preferential Treatment Remixing is hard! Especially as Barb and I are thematically alike, just she goes more for the physical hurt and I go for the emotional pain. Figuring out a way that I could differentiate the stories was tough.
Biggest Disappointment: Diplomacy in Waltz Tempo. It took me awhile to figure out what I wanted to write, and like I said, it has its flaws. I'm pretty okay with it, but it could have used another round of polish but there was a deadline...
With that in mind, here are next year's resolutions:
1. Finish up the Starving Artists series
2. Edit and Post the novel
3. Write a longer McKay/Sheppard Harlequin. I liked writing Company Town and would like to do something like that for McKay/Sheppard.
4. Make more stories explicit.
5.Hurt Rodney more
6. finish desert prince. (for its 10th anniversary, oi)
7. Be kinder to myself and try to curb some of the negative self-talk about my work.
8. Work on faster cycling, and do the STP next year.
9. Buy myself some good cycling shoes, and learn to use them
