Dragging this morning

The quick trip down to see my folks went well. My brother and his family came down in the late Afternoon on Saturday, so we all could visit mom together. He'd just been down to see her for Mother's day, and I had been down last month, but she's really not doing very well. I'm not going to be all emo today, but it's very tough to see her.

Sunday we decided to head back early, in part because the cottonwood was playing havoc with Ev and my allergies, so we left after we saw mom again and took Dad out to breakfast. On the way home, we took a detour to Beacon Rock and hiked up it, which was cool. Lar and I had climbed it every year when we lived in Vancouver, Wa, and I had climbed it one summer with my folks, my brother, and my cousin as part of a family vacation (telling my mom all the time 'oh, the top is just around the corner, I'm sure') so it was very nostalgic for me. And it was nice to get out of the car for a bit and do something active.

Today, though, I am dragging. My allergies haven't settled back down yet (and may not for a bit), and the trip wiped me emotionally as well as the normal travel tired. I just have to survive this week, and then I get a holiday day. I am looking forward to it.

It was the cottonwood, I swear. Things seemed okay here in Seattle, but I got down to Portland, and it was like the miners of post-nasal drip had a sudden revival. I'm still dragging, and I know it will be days before everything balances out again.
