2007 Bike Ride #8: Return of the Commute to Work

May is Bike-to-Work month in Seattle, and while I have not officially signed up for it, I was planning on making that an unofficial goal--you know, in case it rains and stuff. (Plus I only go into the office 3 days a week as it is, so my max trips is 2 days a week as 1 of those I take Evan in to school on my way to work.) The nice thing about this trip is it's pretty flat, and even though all of the roads have a lot of traffic on them, there is a nice wide shoulder--plus the view of the lake is incredible. I saw a bald eagle this morning! It flew right over my head, and I was so busy looking up at it, that I didn't notice that there was a nail on the path in front of me--fortunately, it was on its side, so my tires were okay, and looking at the eagle was worth it. No one in the huge line of cars seemed to see it at all, but it really made me happy to see it.

Tonight I am off to try my hand at running the spotlight for the play. I am the back-up spotlight person, doing the two matinées and whatever other shows need to get covered. I've never done this, so I'm pretty excited. Also, the woman who is the stage manager was wearing a Xena shirt, and from that, I guessed she was videovixen from Xena fandom. I think I freaked her out when I asked her about it, as we had never met, but I had it right. I am very proud of having guessed, but I feel like a total dork when I try to introduce myself to fans who are BNFs in fandoms I have never played in--"uhm, yeah, I know you 'cuz of this stuff, but I don't think we've been in a fandom together, so you wouldn't know anything that I've done...'

I did the same with seperis, rageprufrock, and chopchica when then were in town.

When the slumber party came to Seattle, I would have sworn that one of the people at the big table in the Italian restaurant was you; obviously, I am utterly, utterly mistaken. I met so many people that night, most of them smallville fans, and I felt completely at sea on the whole fannish cred thing.
