[livejournal.com profile] sherrold, her partner, and I all went for a huge bike ride today. (Here's the loop, plus there was about 400 feet of climbing up and down Capital Hill for another 6 miles.) We're planning on doing the Tour de Cure together, the 45-mile route, so this was a great first group ride. I've been worried about group rides--slowing people down, not being able to keep up--and this was a great match. We stopped a lot, to regroup mostly--well, and potty breaks--but we had a lot of fun. While the day started off cloudy with a chance of rain, by the end of the day, even though it was cool the sun was shining. Oh, and I'd never biked across the I-90 bride before, so I felt really accomplished when that part was over and we headed down to Renton. Once there, there was a lot of construction on the route we had, and we ended up getting lost for a few blocks, but we picked the path up pretty quickly again. Seward Park was gorgeous, and the lake beautiful, and after a brief break, it was time for the long climb home.

Now, though, I am exhausted. So it's a long bath, and puttering around for the next couple of hours, then straight to bed.

My god, now that's a trip! Congratulations to all three of you. I wish you woulda said something, though; I would have loved to say hi while you were in the neighborhood! Don't be a stranger. *shakes finger*

Eeep! I don't even know where your apartment is right now, but we're going to do a few more rides this spring/summer, so if we can figure out how to find you, we will stop by.

I really love biking, and there were times today when I felt like I could pedal forever. of course, there were also times when I was panting and huffing, and my legs were burning and I was thinking 'my god, will this hill never end?' but I'm trying to focus on the positive stuff. *g*

Yes, I did find the bridge a little scary. Mostly because it's a bridge, and the bike path extends out over the water; it's separated from the cars by a half-height concrete barrier, so we didn't have an actual car traffic to contend with. And once I got going, I found it less scary than I imagined, as we were on the inside lane away from the edge. But wow, was it great to look out occasionally and see boats on the water. I was pretty okay with it all by the end of the trip.
