2006 Bike Ride #18
Sep. 10th, 2006 03:49 pmRide Length: 31.5 miles
Where: Redmond to Shoreline (and a bit) then home again
Start Time: 9:30 am(ish)
How long: 3.07 by biking computer, and 3.30 (I think) by the clock
This was a Sammamish and Burke-Gilman trails ride, so it was pretty much flat. My goal was to work on endurance, and what I noticed was how much stronger I am now than I was when I started...uh, June? (I rode once in March, but that was it until June) I maintained about 10.4 MPH for the ride, which was awesome for me. I need to be about 15 MPH for the STP next year, but I have pleanty of time to work on that. The other cool thing was that I rolled over the 300 mile mark for the year, whoo-hoo!
The craziness today resulted from a large number of walkers on the trail doing a charity walk (Walk this Way, sponsored by the Seattle Church of Christ, for HOPE international). I had to weave in and out of groups for the first part of the ride, and some people were great about getting over and others...weren't. On my way back home, there was a group of about 12 people walking 3-4 abreast in a huge block, with some dogs in the middle, going the opposite direction from me. A family of cyclists going their direction was trying to pass them at the same time, soI had to slow or collide with their 4 year old, who was watching the dogs, not the road. I had to shout at the kid three times to get him to notice me, and there were other cyclists backing up behind me. Got through okay, no one took a spill, and went on my way, but man, I was annoyed.
The wild chickens of Bothell landing made it all better though. I really should take a picture of them to show you sometime.
