I have never been as prolific a writer as I was this year. When I look at my goals from last year -- 6 completed stories, 1 of them over 6000 words -- I had no idea I was being so easy on myself. That felt like a pretty good year. I made a resolution to join a challenge, finish off a WIP, and work on joining into fandom a bit more, instead of sitting by the sidelines.

Then SGA ate my brain. At the time I was working on this meme last year, I though maybe I'd glom onto House fandom, but, uh, yeah. The end result is that I wrote 50+ stories, chapters, and drabbles, including last year's yuletide but excluding this year's yuletide and sga_santa. That is a lot for me. Seriously. When did I become prolific?

Singles

  • Still Life Dead Like Me (yuletide 2004 for koanju, George/Mason)
And thus my first het story was written. This year has really stretched me, and I have written a lot of types of stories that I had kinda ignored. Honestly, when I wrote this one, I wasn't sure I could do the relationship, but I like how it all turned out.

  • E2 Drabble Enterprise for Alia
When the E2 episode aired, I had an idea for this drabble, but it never gelled. I think I must have re-written the thing 5 or 6 times, trying to make it all work the way I wanted it to, and put it aside as it was just so frustrating for me. Finally, Alia's birthday arrived, and so I pulled it out to re-look at it, see if I couldn't finally finish the thing. And yes, thinking about her and what I thought she might like was enough to let me finally finish it. I love writing for my friends; it's the only way anything gets done. *g*

  • Ya Gotta Have Friends Futurama drabble (yuletide 2004 for rosemending)
This was part of last year's mad scramble as "oh my god, this person has no story!" was discovered. It was incredibly fun to be able to write-on-demand, and I think it gave me a lot of confidence about being able to write a story just by sitting down and going for it, ala NaNoWriMo.

  • Poltergeist Invisible Man ficlet for lydiabell
Oh, this one is really fun. It's slash but there are also threesome vibes to it. It's public sex, only it's not, and there's not!voyeurism involved too.

  • Sound as Bright as Lightning Man from Uncle ficlet for Nangi Akki.
I haven't written MFU since the early 90s, but that meme where I could not remember lines from my own stories was great. I got a lot of prompts, and a lot of people to write stories for, and it was really fun to do.

  • Naked Monopoly Starsky and Hutch Movieverse for darthhellokitty and sidewinder
This was the WIP I finished this year. No, really! It was. I started it before yuletide in 2004, which is why I didn't post it to the yuletide site as a NYR story; I figured if I started it for me, then it didn't really fit in those guidelines, but I probably should have. As a story, this is one of the ones I used to try and break through my mental block about writing explicit sex scene. If I don't do them for a while, it gets hard for me to imagine how it all works, so I think that this story suffers a little from that roughness. Still and all, I'm happy with it, and think it's fun.

  • So-Called Family The Sentinel, Jim/Blair
This was because I was shanghaied into the "Making Sense of Cliches" challenge by [livejournal.com profile] merryish. This was one of the challenges I crocked, where I got a prompt that I just couldn't work with if I took it as its most common value. I can't do a short story on child abuse, and I really didn't want to write a long one. *g* So, I found a happy medium, and got to play with it some; I really liked the result.

Doubles
Wiseguy: All Sonny/Vinnie

  • Sex on the Beach for merricatk
Another of the writing meme drabbles. Sonny is just so charismatic, smoldering hot and potentially explosive, he's incredibly fun to play with. It's no wonder that Vinnie is utterly mesmerized by him. He's just...wow.

  • Always with You for yuletide 2004, for [livejournal.com profile] mmmchelle
I owe a very big debt to this story, as it helped get me back in contact with chelle, and she's one of the people who pimped me into SGA. Also, please note the hot sex, which was the first explicit story I'd written in, uh, a while.

Stargate SG-1: All Jack/Daniel for [livejournal.com profile] taselby

  • At the Dig Drabble

  • Corridor Life

  • I think everything I could say about these two stories is in the author's notes for Corridor Life. My relationship with SG-1 appears to be one of those nice, comfortable friendships where you wake up one morning, after many years of occasionally hanging out together, and realize it's love.

More than 2 stories/ficlets/drabbles this year

House, all House/Wilson-ish: 3

  • Schadenfreude a Valentine's Day Drabble

  • Weekend Plans a meme writing drabble for [livejournal.com profile] pun

  • The Manly Art of Home Repair

  • Early last year, I thought House was going to be my fandom for the year. I was interested, involved, and writing! It grabbed my attention and my friends were into it-- and then I kinda realized that other than the domestic stuff, I had no real story ideas as I really hate illness and hospitals.

Highlander: 9 including DP chapters
  • Winter, 1917 for the "picture is worth 1000 words" challenge, Duncan with some literary RP potential slash allusions. Yeah, in my head, it's a far more complex story than it ends up on paper.

  • Summer's End Duncan/Methos for the HL_remix community's first challenge

  • Gypsy KissDuncan/Consone, also for the HL remix community, the second challenge. Look, ma! I wrote some D/s kink. Man, next year, I need to do more. More kink, I say. I need to write more kink.

  • Three Drabbles: Duncan/Joe dialog, Dinner Plans (Duncan/Methos/Amanda duncan's birthday drabble), Untitled Methos/Amanda Duncan's birthday drabble.

  • Joining the HL remix community has been great for me. I have written more HL this year because of it, and have dabbled in reading HL again. I really like the small community atmosphere and the feeling that I am getting to know the people in it. It's a nice little fandom for me.

There was also 3 chapters of The Seduction of the Desert Prince. While it's still not done, which is always one of my fannish goals, we did do some of the things that we laid the groundwork for 8 years ago, so Yay us!

And the big dog, SGA:
30 stories, so I'm going to cheat for links and have you go to my SGA webpage

    Het 1 2
  • Teyla's return, Carson/Teyla drabble

  • ETA: Forgot about the Novak/McKay drabble for [livejournal.com profile] oddball_sga, which is now on my website.

  • Threesomes 2
  • Diablerie (M/S/W)

  • A Sandwich Story (M/S/Z)

  • Slash, other 3
  • Pit Traps, Not So Much (Lorne/Parrish)

  • Predator and Prey (John/Ronon)

  • Mummer's Dance (Teyla/Weir)

  • Gen 11 12
  • Separate Salt from Sand (Cadman, Heightmeyer, plus McKay, Sheppard, Lorne, Teyla, Ronon and Beckett/Cadman)

  • 400 words about 4 Puddle Jumpers (Sheppard, Markham, Beckett, Zelenka)

  • Something Borrowed (Sheppard)

  • Laptops (Lorne)

  • Starter Set (McKay, Grodin, Zelenka) - A never finished AU

  • Radek Zelenka, Mastermind ( Sheppard, Zelenka )

  • High Tech (McKay) - follow on to 48 hours

  • Gravesite ( Weir)

  • Preparation (Beckett) - Beckett/Atlantis

  • Dragon's Hoard ( McKay) - McKay anxiety attack

  • Little Red Hens (Kavanagh) drabble

  • ETA:
  • Gender Swap short, where John's turned into a girl post-conversion

    Slash, Sheppard/McKay 13
  • The Spare

  • Sand and Sea

  • The Perfect Cappuccino

  • Domestic Shorthair

  • Still Water

  • Cocoon

  • Piano Man

  • Carnival

  • Taste Test

  • Nouvelle Cuisine (also includes other relationships, sequel to Taste Test)

  • Jello Mold - really needs a story around it

  • The Bed

  • Sometimes You Get Baklava - post-Trinity drabble

I also collaborated on 4 vids (Crush Story, Hot Hot Hot, and So Damn Hot are on our clucking belles viding website, while Hallelujah is on [livejournal.com profile] z_rayne's vid site) and remastered 2 others (A Fire Is Burning is linked into our viding site from its home on the pros library site, while Lives in the balance is now up on our vid site, too)

My favorite story this year (of my own):
The Spare, as it has all that and the kitchen sink. Romance, longing, virginity, duty marriage, low self-esteem, pining, ancient tech, airships and flying machines, plus allusions to fairy tales and tons of description. It was a lot of fun to write.

My best story this year:
Separate Salt from Sand, I think.

Story most underappreciated by the universe, in my opinion:
That one's easy this year. The Starsky and Hutch movieverse story. [livejournal.com profile] copracat liked it. *g*

Most Fun story:
The Perfect Cappuccino. Come on, from Sci-Fi protagonist to Barrista. What is not to love in that?

Sexiest story:
I wrote sex this year!!! Last year, there was only one story with explicit sex in it, and this year I have many to choose from. I think I'll go with Nouvelle Cuisine as I think it is the one with the most explicit sex.

Story with the single sexiest moment:
Hmmm. I think I'm pretty good with UST, so I'll pick one of those moments. How about Predator and Prey?

"Holy crap, that's wrong, even for you" story
I think I have to by-pass this one, as I haven't written any stories that I would consider "wrong". I haven't done anything really violent or with extreme kink in it, so in general, things feel pretty tame. I should fix that next year.

Story that shifted my own perceptions of the characters
Again, nothing for this one either. I didn't write anything that changed my mind about anyone. It's all just who they are.

Hardest story to write:
The long House/Wilson one, The Manly Art of Home Repair. I kept being Jossed each week for something I'd written, and having to pull it all out. I finally got fed up and set it aside for awhile, working on a ton of SGA stories in the meanwhile, then finally going back once the season started again to finish it.

Biggest Disappointment
A Sandwich Story maybe. I just couldn't quite get the first part of the story to really gel. I think it would need some more work to make it feel right

Biggest Surprise:
Sand and Sea I had no idea that people would really want to read this little romantic future fic. I really did think I was writing it just for me.

Most Unintentionally Telling Story
I have no idea, really. If I'm telling something, I still haven't figured out what it is.

Conclusions?
Still a sucker for flash fic and writing stories for specific people. I have no will of my own. Also, I totally need to stop freaking out over writing summaries; whatever it is is fine.

to recap
1. I'd like to write a Novella next year, something over 20K words.
2. Still working on putting all finished stories, including drabbles, on my website. (I still have a forgotten SGA flashfic bit to post, oi)
3. See if I can really do a job share when my manager gets back from maternity leave.
4. Try not to let the challenge stories distract me from some of the other things that I want to write.
5. finish desert prince. I think this will stay on my list until the year that it actually gets done, and that still may be awhile.
