[livejournal.com profile] sherrold and her partner and I all went on a nice ride today, about 15 miles, from capital hill to seward park. I hadn't been doing a lot of hills, but I still managed okay. In general, I made it a lot further and did more than I thought I could. They were both great encouragers, and I think if it had just been me, I would have walked a lot more.

I also got to borrow one of Sandy's camelbacks, and I really liked it. Yeah, the water does taste like plastic, but I can deal for the convenience.

The day was gorgeous. Bright and sunny and not too warm as we started out earlier, about ten. We biked up over a hill and then down to the I90 bike tunnel, which I'd never been through before. We stopped for a moment at the vantage point to look out over the floating bridges and the lake; there were boats everywhere and helicopters like dragonflies occasionally darted overhead. Then it was up and down the switchbacks to lake washington way -- today was one of the days where cars are prohibited after a certain point, so there was not that much traffic. We did run into the kids triathlon that was being held at Seward park, and we ate our snacks and watched the kids cross their finish line.

I bailed on riding the 2 miles around the park, as I was remembering the hills we'd gone down and I wasn't sure I'd have the energy to get back up them. *g* On both of the big hills, I had to walk the bike for a bit, but not as much as I'd expected. In reality, for this being the longest bike ride I've been on in ten years -- and the one with the most hills -- I think I did great. *g*

LOL! Okay, that typo has to go. Thanks! Though you know, it does remind me of the trailer for Corpse Bride. *g*

Hah, you're going to incur bad typo karma if you're not careful.

I pretty much just put a quarter in the slot of the typo machine, turned the handle, and am now waiting to see what comes out and when.

And it won't count if I do it on purpose, either.

Whee! Go you! Camelbacks are fantastic--especially for those of us too uncoordinated to manage peddles, brakes, steering and reaching into a cage for a bottle all at the same time.

Or maybe that's just me.

LOL! No, when I was riding a lot years ago, that darn cage thing was a tough at times. I never mastered the art of drinking while riding, so now I have another chance.

Wow, that's impressive and sounds like fun. I always feel conflicted on days like today because it's in my nature to sit around and geek out (reading mostly) but then I feel like I'm not taking advantage of our limited sun and nice weather. I guess I should compromise by reading outdoors.

Reading outdoors is a great option. I would have loved to have done that today, as I have the new HP book and haven't cracked it yet. But the bike ride was too cool to give up. I'd forgotten how much I loved biking.

Thou art better than I! The book magically appeared on my doorstep yesterday morning (i expected it to be delivered on Tuesday). I read the book today (in between laundry, mending, dishes, cats). It took all day too, and more than anything felt like an assignment that I had to get done, so that I could join in - or at least no be spoiled by - the inevitable conversation. The worldwide eventness of the book release is amazing. So no exercise, but I finished it!

and because i am a weak slug, i am downloading SG1, just to see Ben and Claudia.

Yay, you! My son is reading it in the evenings now, which is amazing. I haven't managed to start it yet, but I figure I may need to wait for a weekend as I tend to...forget...to go to bed. "just one more chapter" and then "oh, I'll just skim a bit" leading to 2 or 3 am and realizing that I have to go to work soon. ::sigh::

Maybe you could combine the two; bike to a nice place, do some reading, and then bike home. Really though, I have to remind myself to take advantage of the wonderful weather and many hours of daylight, maybe take some walks in Discovery Park after work.

I'm actually a master of walking and reading, which is why I like the lake sammamish trail. I can walk and the bicyclists go around me, and I don't have to worry about cars. 'course, reading and biking is far more difficult, and I haven't yet mastered that. *g*

I don't think I can do that very well, I'm not coordinated enough. And I do see people reading and driving, which is pretty scary.
