I've decided I'm done with my yuletide story; no more trying to shoehorn in just one more idea or typo fix before the stories go out.

I still have holiday stuff to do around the house, and am thankful that I am on contract at a place that is closed tomorrow. Things just got away from me this year, as happens so often around the holidays.

So, a little background on the series and where these character fit. "Hidden Legacy" is a urban fantasy romance set in Texas. It's got the usual trappings of the older influential man (Mad Rogan) and the younger woman (Nevada Baylor) with a side of genetic breeding, bloodlines, politics, and infighting to make sure your house has the most powerful psionics and/or magic users possible.

The Baylors basically opted out of the magical house system, and have been quietly running a private detective agency for their bread and butter -- yes, Nevada does seem similar to Veronica Mars at times -- while Mad Rogan has been acting as a mercenary for hire with his own private security force.

And yes, it's true: together they do solve crime.

All of that is important to know, as it's an undercurrent to the whole universe, but it doesn't come into play in the relationship in my story. My story focuses on Bernard Baylor, Nevada's computer geek cousin, and "Bug" Levin, a former military surveillance expert who was 'enhanced' just a little bit to better do his job.

Bug survived both his enhancement and his service, and then spent some time as a homeless veteran, doing questionable work for the Baylors. Bug now works for Mad Rogan, and he's doing a lot better than before. He and Bern tend to end up handling the drones, cameras, background checks, etc for their respective organizations, which means they work together some of the time.

So my story starts with a fairly typical slash premise, that they would have already hooked up.
