What's on my mind
Jan. 6th, 2009 07:39 pmFrom my mental list of goals yesterday, I actually got quite a lot accomplished, though it's never as much as I think I should have done. For example, while I did manage 45 minutes of indoor cycling and I got in all my job applications for the week, I fell down on the fannish front by not responding to any comments today, I did not post the links to my yuletide and sga santa stories, nor did I read a single story. Quelle horror!
I am drowning in fiction, so I may have to cut back on some of the stories I've set aside in my to read pile. I'm getting close to 100. Oh, and I may need to cut down my friends lists later, after I go back to work, once I find that new job. I am not completely caught up after going out of town this past weekend, and that's always a bad sign.
Plus my mediafans mail is being wonky tonight. (I checked the server status and the home directory is yellow on the dashboard report, so it looks like it's a temporary hardware thing.) I can receive, but not send. I really should go over to gmail one of these days. But it seems like work.
And speaking of work, I mentioned that the goal for this quarter was to lose some darn weight, right? You may be seeing a lot of these posts, or I may go for the filter after awhile.
When I weight myself yesterday, I was 209 lbs. (Not quite 15 stone, which always sounds better to me, as its a much smaller number) This is really bad for me on a personal level, as my body doesn't work as well as it should when I am over the 200 mark. I think I packed on at least 5 lbs over the week we were snowed in, as I baked and ate a lot of treats. So, as of yesterday morning, I make weight loss my goal for the quarter. I think 10 lbs in 3 months is doable, but we'll have to see how it goes. My body doesn't like to give up weight once I've gained it.
As part of my plan, I'm going to try to (mostly) follow the South Beach diet, and today was pretty good. A lot of protein, salads and vegetables, and I still can't completely turn down fresh baked bread, but limiting it is going to be a big help. So this week is sugar-less and chocolate-less, and we'll go with that for now.
On the exercise front, I really need to set myself a big goal for the year. My SIL, a tiny thing that did the Utah ironman several years ago, grabbed my arm at the family dinner when I mentioned it, and nattered on about wanting to do the STP with me. "We'll do it slow. I haven't been on a bike in six years, and it would be great to lose 15 lbs. So 14, 15 miles an hour would be perfect."
Bwwaaa-haa-haaa. I have a difficult time conceiving of that speed for a short extended ride (say 50 miles), that keeping that pace over 200 seems way out of my league. But it would be awesome to work myself up to that and actually be able to do it. We're going to check in with each other in March and see if it's a go, so let's see if I can pick up some speed before then. I am signed up for the Tour de Cure already, so that's another thing to work toward. Maybe I can make my way up those 10% grades without killing myself. Oh, and without either getting rained out or developing heat exhaustion. Don't want to do that again.

I did the cilantro mayo today, and I think it matters which reduced fat may you start with; you have to find one that isn't too obnoxious. We also did a variation on the pistachio chicken salad. We made it into a dinner entree, and cooked thin slicked chicken, then sauteed the sweet onions, and put the chicken on top of the onions before sticking it in the oven for 15 minutes; that then became the salad dressing. And it was very yummy.
I've got a couple of websites to poke through too. The South Beach Diet recipe collection is here: http://www.southbeach-diet-plan.com/recipecollection.html
And the sparkpeople recipe collection is here: http://recipes.sparkpeople.com/recipes.asp?food=south+beach&a=

Date: 2009-01-07 04:43 pm (UTC)My TBR bookmark is out of control (easily over 1000 stories in it), and my desire to add more people is at war with it being more difficult to keep up with everyone now that I'm nowhere near LJ ten hours a day because of work. So I hear you!
