I wrote Lorne/Parrish this year, Lesser Homes and Gardens for [livejournal.com profile] emma_in_oz. (If you use that link, please comment here, as I don't get email from that account.) [livejournal.com profile] sherrold and [livejournal.com profile] z_raynedid the beta for me, but the typos in the story are all mine. I'll also be doing a summary, which I forgot to give them. Something like ...I have no clue. That's probably why it was missing in the first place.

In emma's Santa Letter, she asked for Lorne/Parrish, backstory, and no Beckett.  So not only did I get a wonderful chance to say anything I wanted to about where these guys were from and what their lives were like, but I also got to create a character to take care of the itsy-bitsty teeny-tiny bit of Hurt/comfort that I wanted to include.  I mean, I got to the infirmary and I was all "oh, damn.  No Beckett.  What do I do now?"

But we worked it out.

As one of the three people who'd written Lorne/Parrish before, I thought for sure people would guess that this was my story. Especially after I started to write up my Nero Wolfe recs for Yuletide, and wondered if anyone would connect that orchid reference to me.  So I was tricksy and commented on my own story; if that threw anyone off, I deeply apologize, and you should feel free to claim a drabble from me for that particular slight-of-hand.

I had a great time doing this challenge, and if I have one regret, it's that I could not keep up with the number of stories being posted and so didn't make any recs or do any public guessing.  I don't think I'll be able to keep up next year, either, but if I can rec stuff in [livejournal.com profile] yuletide, I can certainly rec stuff from here.  It'll be a goal for next December.

I do too. He's so...funny, caring, and competent. It's fun to make him lose it. Thanks!

I commented in the other journal when I first read, but I really liked this story. Maj Lorne is rapidly becoming one of my favorite characters (although McKay and Sheppard remain first in my heart:)

I am thrilled that he's appearing in more stories. And I like the Lorne/Parrish stories popping up, too. I guess it's because Parrish is such an blank slate--it's fun seeing how writers run with him. I am going to have to check back through your stories, though, because I don't remember your other Lorne/Parrish story.

I love how Lorne/Parrish is becoming the big background relationship. They are a real underground hit! And yes, I think it is fun to have such a blank slate to play with. They don't even have first names. *g*

And the other one is a short Pit Traps, Not So Much. (http://mediafans.org/rachael/sga/atlantis_pittraps.html) I make a reference in to to Parrish's "jungle-like" room, so I must have my own personal fanon there.

Thanks!

Thank you for the story link. I liked how you were able to convey alot of character information about Parrish in such a short piece. I can see why Lorne is intrigued ;)

Parrish can totally sneak up on you, in a completely enthusiatic and un-subtle way. Thanks!

Aha, this was you! I started reading this the other day and was enjoying it until I got interrupted. Must get back to it today. I was especially interested in this one because I've somehow ended up writing a story from Lorne's POV at the moment and I haven't read much with him playing a major part.

Will return with proper comments once I've read it all.

Have you read The Jenny Code (http://www.livejournal.com/users/miss_porcupine/100295.html) by [livejournal.com profile] miss_porcupine? It is gen but has a great Lorne POV. If you haven't, I highly recommend it. (The link goes to her LJ, which has the story summary and link to her website.)

Lorne's fun to write, as to me, he's confident, competent, and a bit of a goodball.

Great title! I love Lorne and it was so sweet to see him taking care of his scientist (I can just see all the military personel meeting to call dibs on who gets which scientist). Nice to see that Carson doesn't have to do all the work by himself. Parrish's room was totally cool, as was his enthusiasm for his field. Love the way they are comfortable with each other even when treading on uncertain ground. Very enjoyable. :)

I think the title is pretty much the summary of this story, as it's about Lorne and Parrish, secondary characters, their home in atlantis, and Parrish's near-garden. I was really stumped on what else to say about it, as with so many of my storys, no real action plot happens. And now I'm thinking it might be cool to occasionally use someone other than Beckett in the infirmary in other stories, too, as he can't be on-shift all the time.

But that would mean writing more H/c, and that is such a hardship for me. *g*

Thanks!

Awww, that was really sweet. I think I could get to like these guys. I like how Lorne continually gives himself away in his actions, words and thoughts throughout this. All the little concerns, from pushing Parrish to the infirmary to deciding that he needs to get more sun, are so cute (in a manly way, of course. *g*) He's just so aware of Parrish throughout all of this, taking note of everything he says and does, everything about him. And then at the end, of course, Parrish shows that he's been equally aware of Lorne all along. I imagine that being a 'soft scientist' working for Rodney McKay would not be all that easy a position to be in, so working with someone as attentive as Lorne would really make a change.

I really liked the way you brought these two minor characters and their relationship to life in this story. You really brought out what we do know about them from canon - Parrish's enthusiasm for his subject, in particular - and built on it really well.

Thanks.

Yes, Lorne is very manly in his care-taking and concern, isn't he? The kind of guy who needs a P90 to get a box of kleenex for someone who isn't feeling well.

I'm sure that Parrish has find nice little bolt-holes to hide from McKay on occasion; unfortunately, some days it seems like all the soft science staff is already hiding there, so he hides out in Lorne's room at times.

Thanks!

Whoops. I didn't realise that my thanks on the SGA-Santa site didn't reach you. I did really appreciate this - lovely, long, character filled Porne!

Thanks! Actually, I haunted my SGA Santa story at first, so I did get to see your comments; I just didn't get to keep a copy of them or get versions emailed to me so I could respond in a timely fashion (For example, getting this prompted me to look at comments again, and yup, someone posted something like a month ago that I have never seen. ::sigh::) Porne makes me very happy, and I am so glad you requested it. Thanks!

This was very sweet, and yet also very realistic as to I think a first time Parrish/Lorne would go. Nicely done!
