Hot Buttered Rum Batter
Dec. 18th, 2005 08:31 amA lovely card from
z_rayne arrived yesterday. She's very crafty, she is. ;)
Yesterday was out local gathering, and my hot buttered rum mix was a success. A few people asked for the recipe, so here's what I used:
1 stick butter
1/2 c confectioners sugar
1/2 c brown sugar, packed
1 c premium French vanilla ice cream, softened
1/4 tsp fresh ground nutmeg
1 tsp cinnamon
Melt butter over low heat and gradually stir in confectioner's sugar until absorbed. Add brown sugar and stir until the butter and sugars have formed a glutinous, sticky mass and there is no butter floating around on top. Remove from heat, whisk in ice cream, nutmeg and cinnamon. (You can also add ground cloves if you want). Put in a container and stash in the freezer for a day or so to give the spices time to permeate the mix.
My son drinks this with hot water, for a "Hot Buttered". Last night, a few people added it to coffee and then added the rum; I'm a purist and have simply hot water and rum in mine.

A stick of butter is 1/4 lb, or 4 Oz.
So it's:
4 Oz butter
4 Oz confectioners sugar
4 Oz brown sugar, packed
8 Oz premium French vanilla ice cream, softened
That looks a lot simpler than what I wrote originally, doesn't it? Hope that helps.
Of course!
