A/N: I know I am late to the reveal again, but I wrote "Beast of Burden" for 2008's mcshep_match. I love the challenge--I think I do some of my best work with fixed prompts and formats--and I really like the way the story turned out. It wasn't what I had started with, as my first idea was to do a John POV, but that story would have fit better with the home team, so I had to revamp things to make it fit with being on the "away team".

Along the way, I picked up inspiration from three different songs:

Bob Dylan's "Like a Rolling Stone"
Red Hot Chili Peppers' "Under the Bridge"
U2's "Where the Streets Have No Name"

You can probably pick out which song I was listening to as you read along.

Sidebar to The Daedelus Variations

This is something that has been nagging at me since I saw the episode. It's kinda fiction, but not a complete story, and certainly not edited or beta-read. More a set-up for a thought.
