Yeah. Okay. I didn't have high hopes for this season--since the SG1 production crew no longer had movies to make, I knew they would be more hands-on, which depressed me--and this episode was the one that seriously jumped the shark for me. I can't get passed that in 5 years there has never been an all-woman gate team before (even though, I believe that one had been referred to in conversation before this. Special envoys, I think.) And John and Carson's reactions were so incredibly sexist--what was up with that fist bump at realizing there were no other men that they had to deal with?--that I saw red from that moment on. At least once they got going, John acted more like John, but the way the writers were congratulating themselves on the thing made me furious.

I did like the zombies though, and wish they would have done something with it. ::sigh::

*copies and pastes because she is tired and sick*

This totally felt like a bunch of men patting themselves on the back because they just showed us wimmin how non sexist and aware of the problems inherent in the system they are.

*gag*

Not only that, but I found Carson and John's interaction at the end cute, but kind of creepy, a secret plan to get Carson's new piece of ass near him.

ALSO, I can ALMOST buy john being aware that there was an all female team just not like-- AWARE, as in, he hadn't thought about it, hadn't put it together and was basically a guy. But then, he's also in charge. But of all the things, THAT moment (other than the knuckle bump of nauseating awesome)is the one I buy most.

I can't buy that John wasn't aware. It stood out as self-congratulations to me, and I could not see the character in it anywhere. Just...arrgh.

I think to me, I can see it sort of as, he knew, but like-- had never actually had it smack him in the face like that, which stretches reality a lot, though really, anywhere but the SGC, and you probably wouldn't find an all female combat team. So. As I said, I can almost, if I squint, see it.

So you're saying that the names on paper didn't really mean anything--he knew, but he didn't *know*, what those names meant. Which...okay, Yeah, I see what you're saying. It's just that if we didn't have 5 years of history already going into this, I would find it more believable. I'm thinking that in 5 years of science exploration with a limited pool to draw from, they have already run some all-women operations, even if it wasn't a permanent team.

*nodnod* I agree-- I just also think that in John Sheppard's world, what you can do is more important than your sex on paper. In terms of assignments. I mean if we can buy that he never sees it coming or is occasionally a great big dork AND an excellent military commander, I can buy that too. Kinda. So yeah. BIG STRETCH, but that at least is in the vaguest realms of possibilities, unlike that hand bump. Which is just... a world of no.

Hey I know! It's a fairly new team and not all the paperwork has gone past his eyes? he just knows she's got a new team? *adjusts tinhat*

Exactly! What were they thinking, having the guys celebrate being alone with an all-female team. Way to do professionalism there, whoo-hoo!

I have a horrendous feeling that none of those writers understand how wrong it would be for John not only to pursue to but to accept pursuit from one of his subordinates. After all, it's every guys dream right? *gags more*

*Gah* So much. They didn't think through what they were implying, and that is what gets to me. Some of the show's writer's don't think about internal universe stuff at all; it's like really bad fanfic.

Any truth to the story that SG1's military consultant split with them rather acrimoniously after trying and failing to convince them that a Sam/Jack relationship was a *terrible* idea, and illegal to boot, and that it was irresponsible to promote it as something that could just sort of up and happen in a well-run military unit? It sounds like the sort of thing that could be true, but then, good rumors always do.

You know, I have no idea, but that would fit in with the snotty remarks about her new short haircut Sam got around season something or other and the fact that SGA doesn't have one at all.

But hmm-- when would it have happened, after the real secretary of the airforce showed up?

I think there's probably some truth in there somewhere.

You can tell they have no women writers on their staff and, after 11 years as a franchise, still no clue as to how the US military command structure works. There is no way LtC J. Sheppard would not have known about the composition of that team: Major Teldy would have had to submit a request to him for those individuals along with a request to McKay for one of his team for permanent assignment.

And that whole "Wow! Chicks!" thing? So out of character for both Sheppard and Beckett. Very poorly done.

Yeah. With this ep, I could not get outside my knowledge of the production team to get to the universe stuff that I love so much. It bummed me out.

I stopped watching after the whole "OMG a gate team full of chicks, tee hee" scene. It was just too revolting, and made John look both sexist and really stupid.

Yes, exactly. The production team had not really worked through what they were doing, and the implications. I absolutely hate it when they do that. I know they don't track all the details that we do, but it would have take so little thought to correct.

Ah Whisperers. How can they possibly top The Shrine. Oh yeah, they can't. I give up. Joe M & Paul M don't care anymore.

And BOO to hardly any Rodney.

Oh, they care. They really care. And they are so busy patting themselves on the back for how clever they are and the small things that they have done, that they do not see all the offensive things that are in there too.
