Thank you santa! A rec, And other stuff

I got a package Saturday and one today from a secret santa! Both are wonderful, as chocolate and books are some of my favorite things.

I'm reading The Soul and the Company Store which is really good, and also knocks my 'John as AI' story off my to-be-written list. Only 50 more stories to go...

Still panicking over other stories that need to be written. I am helping Lar with auditions for his show tonight, so I am going to take a notebook and try to sandwich some writing by hand in my downtime. *ack*

I think my work should pay me to take off the rest of the month, don't you?

I just finished reading that story and it was hitting all my John is an AI kinks so much I was just bouncing and then she turned him into a Real Live Boy at the end, which kind of ruined the whole thing for me. And it shouldn't, because it's a great piece of writing, and I love the first 2/3, but I just...I liked John better as a robot, I didn't see the need to miraculously shove him into a cloned body. I'm sure that says something about me *G*.

It's really tough to put a happy ending on a death story, so I cut her slack for that, and also I liked it as the flip of her john-as-hologram story, where real!rodney never accepted Hologram!John, and I had to wait for Rodney to die to get my happy ending. It's just. Man. Writers and themes. And 'my partner's dead--just kidding' is as close as I have to a bulletproof kink.

But yeah. Transmutting forms like that is kinda a soft pitch ending. Even though I like it at times, I know it weakens the story.

It was great! Kinda the flip in a way of body holographic, where AI!John has to wait for Real!Rodney to die for them to be together forever--if you know what I mean.

Thank you! And I'm glad you noticed that, actually, because I was thinking about that all the way through this, that it was, in it's own way, a kind of remix of "The Body Holographic", but one with the opposite ending. :)
