This morning, I read synecdochic's post on the current strikethrough issue, and I gotta say, it totally reminded me about Traci Lords, plus all of those depictions of cheerleaders and football players that have the words "all models over the age of 18" stamped all over them.

I guess that in fandom, some artists forgot that they needed that stamp.

Still, given that things are chaotic here, I have gone ahead and paid the $30 for my perm account over on InsaneJournal. I've enjoyed having a perm account here for years, and I don't plan on leaving LJ unless they kick me out. (which is always a possibility.) Having a contingency plan doesn't hurt.

The thing that's really got me upset this time is the continued inability of the LJ staff to clearly articulate their policies. I'm at work, so I haven't viewed the artwork in question, but people I trust have said that isn't easily apparent that the figure(s) are underage. In which case, the hell? And to skip to permanent suspension?

They've gotten things wrong too many times in the past several months. If I knew what was and was not acceptable content, I'd feel far more comfortable. As it is, the potential for a miscarriage of justice is too high to make me comfortable.

I agree that the LJ staff need to be clear, but the issue is that it doesn't matter to US law whether they look underage or not. Drawings fall under the same code as photographic images, and without that 'over 18' dislcaimer, if the set-up gives the impression of underage activity, that's all that's required. That's the whole point of that weird disclaimer.

But yes, I agree. I want them to figure out how they want to state this, so we don't get this sort of hubub constantly.
