My first spin
Mar. 31st, 2007 12:09 pmAs part of the Tour de Cure, Spin classes are offered by Gold's Gym a couple of weekends each month leading up to the tour, and I decided that since I had access to them without having to join the gym, I'd give it a shot. Today was a really good day to try it, as it was raining when I got up and the idea of riding in the rain does not yet thrill me. (Even though I have purchased rain pants, as I know some day I will have to get over my clear sky prejudices.)
I think I did well, or a lot better than I expected. That standing and peddling thing I was no good at, and I never cranked up the tension on the bike to high, but I pretty much kept it all within my heart rate goals that I set for myself. Certainly I worked a lot harder than I do when I am riding by myself; the focus on cadence was new as I have nothing on my home bike that measures that. And when the class was over, I was sweating a lot, my leg muscles felt depleted, and I really felt like I had worked out.
Yeah, I loved it.
I have another couple of those classes coming up in April, but I didn't sign up for the May class as I hope to be working outside most of the time by then. But we'll see for sure what it's like when I get to May; it could be a very wet month.
