Ride Length: 23 miles (via google maps)
Where: Over the hill to Crossroads, down to Factoria, the Mercer Slough, across Bellevue and the 520 bike trail to home
Start Time: 12:30 pm (ish)
How long: 3:50 by watch
Heart Rate: 156 avg, 184 peak
Darn hills. It's really tough to keep my heart rate in the best ranges when, you know, you have to go over the hill and there's no way around it. I had planned some more mileage, but cut it short when I looked at one hill and thought 'Oh, no way. Not another one'. So I cut out the tour through the Bellevue Highlands, and went straight for the I-90 bike trail and the loop around Lake Washington. Despite my heart rate going what I consider a little high, I felt really good about the hills; I was able to do a lot of them sitting down, and while I did walk the steeper ones, I never felt as drained as I did the first time I tried a similar route. I would like to try this one again in a few months, see how much I improve. I will need to better manage both hills and speed if I'm going to do the RSVP this year; fortunately I have time.
I am freezing, though. I think 48 was the high today, and going downhill got seriously chilly when it was in the shade. Also, at some point, the tripometer stopped working, so I have no idea what the real mileage was. I had to use google maps to take a guess.
