Well, hello there!
Jun. 1st, 2010 09:26 pmI'm gonna try and do some of this posting thing. In my mad gaming frenzy, I completely forgot to post about my life on occasion. I guess that's because there's been nothing major happening in my life -- no major fandom, no major family things (YAY!!!), no serious issues now that the cat's feeling better. In general, I just feel so much better than I did when I was going through treatment that even though I'm still tired at times, I can see on a daily basis that I'm doing okay.
Work is also okay. I'm learning the job, which is similar to one I used to do, but slightly different--and that's making me feel good too, since I know I can do it. A little bit of a challenge, and it's not overwhelming.
I'm carpooling in and taking the bus home most days, so my husband bought me a kindle. I had to wrestle it out of my son's hands as we took the train down to my dad's place this weekend. I bought him a book, but he loved being able to read on it, and he didn't hardly play his video games at all. It was so weird! I ended up reading my books on the kindle iphone app, but it's impossible to read fanfic that way.
Speaking of -- what is your favorite kindle-ready fanfic story? I downloaded a couple of things from the efiction to go site, but if you have a favorite set up for a kindle, point me at it! I think I'm ready to read just about anything.

Date: 2010-06-02 01:52 pm (UTC)Unfortunately, I've read a lot of the SGA stuff and I have no clue about any of the other fandoms. Guess I'll just have to give it a try.

Date: 2010-06-02 03:03 pm (UTC)Also have you looked at Kindledfans over on LJ? http://community.livejournal.com/kindledfans/
They have tutorials on how to convert fiction to mobi format and put it on your kindle. So far, all I've used is the download from fanfic to go on my PC and copy it over via the direct connection, as well as email my kindle a text file and let it do the conversion for a small fee. I haven't yet downloaded the converter and tried formatting anything myself.
BTW, what is the email address for Sandy's kindle. Is stories.for.sandy at gmail authorized to send her things? Where does the fee get paid from? and all that stuff. I think if we could paypal the admin account some cash, that might take care of some of this.

Date: 2010-06-02 05:08 pm (UTC)I just pick stories I like and kindle-ize them. I've been using Calibre to convert HTML to MOBI. It's a pretty straightforward process. Sometimes I use Netscape Composer to clean up the HTML document before converting it.
There's also the

Date: 2010-06-02 09:13 pm (UTC)I want people to not worry about the fee for sending to her kindle. If we can collect a small amount and then pay Sandy back, that would rock. If we are doing it to our Kindles too, we can track the approximate amount of it.

Date: 2010-06-04 03:40 am (UTC)I actually save the fanfic I like as HTML files and read them on my Pocket PC phone and my Archos 605 media player. If you have a Kindle 1, you can save the fanfic as a TXT file and read it.
