First of all, a huge thank-you to [livejournal.com profile] minnaleigh for writing my yuletide story for me. I really wanted to see more of Wilhelmina and her story (set in the Black Jewels universe) gave me that.

As for me, I wrote three stories for yuletide this year, my primary story and two pinch-hits. All of them were a blast to write, and I will end up posting them all to both this LJ and to my website.  Just...not today. *g*

Ziggurat
Secret Adventures of Jules Verne, Jules/Phileas, Adult, 2250 words
for Nicole DAnnais

SAJV is the rarest fandom I have ever had, with 3 people requesting stories in it and 3 people offering to write it.  The show came out 2000 and only had one season, but it was a gorgeous, gorgeous show.   (Here is the link to the two monks site for the show.  Michael Praed is stunning in it.) Steampunk science and dirigibles, Victorian era setting with modern attitudes, it was a crack!fiction before that ever became popular.  There was always a sexual tension simmering between the three main characters: Phileas, Jules, and Rebecca.  It had huge amounts of hurt/comfort, and one of my favorite episodes was the Victorian Candidate, where Phileas is drugged to the gills and brainwashed into trying to kill the Queen. (Yes, it really was that fannish.)  I took a little of what I remembered from that, and a little from transcripts of the initial episodes--with a side-trip to "the little match girl" for fun--to craft the story.  If it reads sort of like a Victorian 'Man From Uncle' or an 'I Spy' story...well, that's because that's what the show was.  Only with dirigibles.

Zombie Patrol
Heroes, Peter/Claire, PG-13, 1200 words
for Sonya

I think Peter/Claire is the dominate non-canonical het pairing in the fandom, but I am not sure about that; I do know that this story was recc'd primarily in the Heroes community and the Paire community in particular, pulling in several people that felt newer to fandom to me.  A couple of side comment made me grin, as the story was dismissed as...apocalyptic fluff.  And really, not everyone can write that. I think it's something to be proud of.

The Importance of Bearing Cocoa
The Tick, Arthur/Tick, PG-13, 1060 words
for growly

A couple of weeks before the end of Yuletide, [livejournal.com profile] sherrold mentioned how she had wanted to play, but that she just didn't feel up to it.  "If I had, I would have asked for The Tick slash." So, when I saw a request for Tick slash pop up on the pinch-hit list, I jumped at it, for the chance to please two people with one story.  I didn't think it would appeal to anyone but a small set of fans--I also thought that this would be the one everyone would guess for me, as Sandy and I had done a Tick vid --but in the end, this was the story I got the most comments about. In fact, I stumbled upon one of those 'Aggh!  My eyes!  My eyes!  I didn't expect The Tick to be Slashed' comments about it.  Seriously good times...

yes, drat you, I enjoyed it... mostly for the fabulous, dead-on Tick-speak you employed, and also for the morose Arthur-maunderings that were spot-on in character.

my favorite bit:

The Tick nodded enthusiastically, and eased Arthur onto the ground, wrapping a thick arm around Arthur's shoulders. "Come, my tiny comrade. We should celebrate this great victory over the clouds of darkness that tried to rain on our parade." He pointed at the coffee house that could barely be seen through the rescue engines. "And there, there is where we shall find refreshment."

"You want a latte? I thought you swore off coffee."

"There are other options than the murky dark blackness of a caffeine high. Instead, I wish to specialize in finding the perfect combination of rich, succulent dark chocolate and mellow white moo juice, foamed to perfection." His antennae vibrated as he spoke. "Treasure the little things, Arthur. It is what separates us from the supervillains." He enveloped Arthur's wrist in one mighty blue paw and tugged gently. "It's cocoa time."

oh yeah, it's cocoa time! good job!
