Hi! I am so glad you found your way here. I hope this letter gives you some ideas of what types of things I like and don’t like in general, and know that while I stuck with canon-based ideas in my submission suggestions, those are all definitely optional. If you have an idea for an AU or off-the-wall scenario or future fic that you are dying to see with the characters I asked for, go for it. I want you to have fun writing and not to stress it – I want you to enjoy yourself.
I’m a character-driven, relationship focused story fan, so if you stick with that – from a small friendship story to epic slash romance – I will love it. I love all types of intimacy from gen to explicit erotica; my favorite kink is D/s, and I also like hurt/comfort.
I love worldbuilding, and all of the fandoms I’ve asked for involve rich worlds to explore. You can also build yourself a new one with alternate histories and timelines, or make them all members of the same band. Feel free to bring in other characters if you want, including original characters; my selected characters should be the focus, but that doesn’t mean they are all alone in the world.
Unless the apocalypse happened. In which case, heck yeah! I’d love to read that story. As you can see from my selections this year, I’m a big urban fanstasy fan, so you get to play with both magic and science as much as you want.
Tropes I love: First times, teasing, banter, dark pasts, found families, self-realization, wistful regret, pining, old hurts, second chances, dreams, romance without schmoop, adventure, ass kicking, angst, exotic settings, outsider POV, wacky undercover situations, steampunk, horror, other worlds, whumpage, hurt/comfort, themes about trust and love.
I do have some dislikes: heavy illness (cancer, AIDS, etc), pregnancy, public humiliation/embarrassment, death and permanent disability. Not that I think you'd write that for yuletide, but I wanted to get it out there anyway. I'm not keen on first person POV or all dialog stories, though I am fine with a story narrated by an original character, animal companion, or inanimate object.
I’ll try to give you a little more background on what I like in my chosen fandoms
I love the idea of the index, and how fairy tales are dark, dark things that screw up people’s lives. I’d be happy with a new adventure for the team to explore if you wanted to go the case route, but I would also love to explore the dynamics between Sloane, Henry, and Gerry. Sloane and Henry had a femslash vibe going, so if you want to explore it, I am fine with that too.
Oh Dali. How I love her. Vegetarian shapeshifter and magic user, ass-kicking hell bent road warrior, and complete and total nerd. She is awesome – all the women in this series are awesome – and I would love to see a follow on to Magic Dreams.
That’s it. Anything you want to do with Dali and Jim would make me happy, because I love them so terribly much. This last book was pretty crazy, and I’d love to see them have some couple time after.
I love the relationship between Raj and Quentin, and would like to see it fleshed out. They both hang around a lot at Toby’s house, and seem to be good friends – if you want to take it in a slash direction, that’s cool too. They have to see a lot of May and Jazz, since they live there as well. Case work of their own or just hanging out, I’d like to see what they do.
Honey. Man. After this last book I can’t even… Something about her past and her life before would be nice; I’d like her to have something good, since it feels like she never has anything of her own that lasts.
Go crazy with this one – it’s a video game and I really just want to see them banter back and forth with each other. I am also absolutely good with hurting Ralph and having his friends take care of him. I love that he feels so deeply, and has no idea of how to express his emotions. I love it when something can break through his shell. Possibilities include – downloadable content for Sugar Rush, the latest game install, even a gaming competition that might have some media coverage involved.
Enjoy writing your story and I'm sure I'll love reading it. All of the details are optional, and I’m happy to leave specifics up to you. Like I said, I love these characters and I'll love whatever you choose to write in any of these fandoms. I'm really looking forward to it!
